Change Phone Number Destination

Modified on Fri, 3 Jan at 3:26 PM

  1. When a phone number is set up, a destination is assigned so callers are directed to the right place. The destination can be changed at any time, such as when launching a new Auto-Attendant, setting up a Virtual Fax, or if the phone number needs to be reassigned from one user to another.
  2. To change a phone number's destination:
  1. Go to Accounts > Phone Numbers.
  2. Locate the phone number you want to modify and click the map icon on the right.
  3. In the Phone Number Destinationspopup, fill out the following:
    1. User Groups: Select a group to narrow the Phone Number Rings To options below to only those users (optional), or leave it blank to show all possible destinations.
    2. Phone Number Rings To: Select a new destination, such as an auto-attendant, Business Line, SIP trunk, user, or virtual fax box.
    3. Assign Phone Number as Caller ID: If the destination is to a user, choose whether to assign this phone number as the user's caller ID.
      1. To assign a different number as the user's caller ID, go to the user's Calls tab and select a number from the Caller ID field.
    4. Priority Ring: Select a priority ring tone (optional).

    1. Click [Save]. The changes are applied immediately.
    1. If the phone number destination is assigned to a user, you can also assign that number as the user's caller ID. See Assign Phone Number to User for details.
    1. End User Access

    2. If the Phone Number Routing Management permission has been enabled, Account Manager and Admin end users can access the Phone Numbers page where they can modify the destination of a phone number that is already on the account, so they won't need to call you to do it. End users will not be able to add a phone number or modify the customer service record (CSR).
    3. This is especially helpful when activating an auto-attendant. If the user doesn't have access to Phone Numbers, they will need to contact their service provider for assistance changing the phone number destination to either activate or deactivate an auto-attendant.
    1. Go to Account > Settings > User Access.
    2. Scroll down to Voice Portal Permissions.
    3. For Phone Number Destinations, choose Allow Editing.
    4. Click [Save].
