To add a new phone number to the account, go the Phone Numbers page and click [+ Add Number] in the top right, then follow the steps in the articles linked.
To port a number, see Submit a Standard Port for details.
There are five steps to add a phone number to the account. See the following articles:
Select a Number
First things first: our system is designed to help you find phone numbers registered to the area local to a given address. So, whether you're adding a new number to your system for an individual or a company, we'll start from the top with the postal code and address.
All fields except those labeled otherwise are required. To make this faster and easier, we've set the system to auto-fill as many fields as possible as you go.
- In the New number tab, enter the customer’s postal code and address. As you type, matching addresses will populate below; select the one you want.
If more information is required, such as a unit number, click Manual entry for additional fields. See Phone Number Manual Entry Field for more info. - Next, choose how to search for the number(s):
Suggestions
Start typing to generate a list of matching phone numbers from your local inventory based on the address entered above, then select a number from these suggestions.
Inventory
Search for any number in your local inventory, regardless of the address. Start typing the area code and phone number to display matching results below.
If you're activating a toll-free number from inventory, be sure to enter the complete number; toll-free numbers will not auto-populate.
Directory Listing
When adding a phone number via Suggestions or Inventory, if the user wants to publish their number in the Directory Listing, make sure to select a number with a green checkmark next to it. If a red X is shown, Directory Listing is not available for this phone number and address.
Dynamic Inventory
Search for and reserve one or more phone numbers directly from ACS's underlying CLEC providers' telephone number management systems. See Dynamic Inventory for details.
Select the Dynamic tab, then choose how you want to activate numbers:
Activate any phone numbers (up to 400)
- In the Quantity field, enter the quantity of phone numbers you want to search for.
- Continue to the Customer Service Record.
Search for and select phone numbers (up to 15)
- In the Phone number quantity field, enter the quantity of phone numbers you want to search for, up to 15. (Not available for Home Phone accounts which are limited to one phone number.)
- Select how to search for numbers:
- Postal code (from the address entered above)
- Area code (NPA)
- Area code + exchange (NPA-NXX)
- To search by area code or area code + exchange:
- Enter the criteria in the field below.
- Select Sequential if you want the numbers returned to be in sequential order (optional).
- Click Search. Once the search is complete (it shouldn’t take more than a minute), a list of numbers that match your criteria will be displayed below. If nothing is available, modify your search criteria and try again.
- Select the number(s) you want to activate, then continue to enter the Customer Service Record (CSR), E911 Record, and Directory Listing.
The selected numbers will be activated with the same Customer Service Record (CSR), E911 Record, and Directory Listing information, all of which can be customized for each number after activation.
