Set Up Voicemail PIN via Softphone

Follow these steps to set up a custom voicemail PIN for a user without a device:

  1. Go to the user that has the voicemail box and go to the device tab, and select the [+Add Device] button
  2. Select Softphone from the device type list. (If the Softphone device type is not available in your device type list, contact your Customer Success Manager)
  3. Click the Advanced Line Settings link
  4. Enter a SIP username. (i.e. thisismySIPusername)
  5. Enter a SIP password and confirm the SIP password (i.e. thisismySIPpassword)
  6. Click [Save]
  7. Download and install a softphone client. We recommend using the Counterpath X-Lite free version which is easy to use and configure. Follow installations instructions
    1. Once installed, go to the Softphone/Account Settings menu in the X-lite client, or if using your preferred client go to the account SIP settings
    2. Use the newly created SIP username as the UserID and Authorization Name (i.e. thisismySIPusername)
    3. Use the newly created SIP password as the password (i.e. thisismySIPpassword)
    4. If using private connectivity, contact your Customer Success Manager to obtain the private domain name
    5. Enter a Display Name. Customer Name or phone number is acceptable
    6. Click [OK] or save your settings.
  8. Once the softphone client has registered to Alianza do the following to set a custom Voicemail PIN
    1. Dial the star code to enter voicemail.
    2. Once inside the voicemail box, enter the default voicemail PIN 1234 followed by the # sign
    3. You will be prompted to enter a new custom PIN to secure your box. Enter the new PIN followed by the # sign
    4. Hang Up. At this point the new custom PIN has been setup, and the voicemail box is accessible for external inbound callers
  9. After the custom PIN has been setup, you can delete the device in the admin portal by clicking the [Deactivate] button.

For security purposes, default PINs can only be changed through a device that is registered directly into the platform. Once a custom PIN has been established the user will be able to access the voicemail box through an external incoming call by entering voicemail and dialing the # sign.
